The View Ridge Neighborhood Loves the Ranken File Band! The View Ridge Neighborhood of Seattle throws a big Block Party in September every year at View Ridge Park.  High on the list of attractions each year is The Ranken File Band.  Young and old love the music and many are moved to get up and start dancing! Truly there’s nothing like good music to bring the community together! — Nancy Bolin, Organizing Committee

The RANKEN FILE

Only the BEST Rock!

The Ranken File plays music that brings people together. We sing and play classic rock and original music. The band has three seasoned musicians on vocals, guitar, bass, and drums. When we play covers, they are often freshly interpreted. We can provide our own sound system.  We show up early, play, and provide a professional performance every time.

“We were so happy to have you (in Friday Harbor)! You were all awesome, the music was great.  So, thanks for making the San Juan Yacht Club Commodore’s Ball so special! ❤️❤️❤️” -Holly & Mike Henry

Tom Ranken sings and plays acoustic and electric guitar, slide, and harmonica.  He earned an Associate Degree in Music Performance from Shoreline Community College (2023) to go with his BA and MBA.

Jim Knapp Jim has over 30 years of experience playing and performing on the drums for local bands including over a decade in The Ranken File.  Jim’s past local bands include classic rock band Boggled Minds, blues band In The House, Alex Ivy, and soul band Heatreatment.  Playing drums is Jim’s passion!!

Sebastian Varas plays bass and sings background and lead vocals.  He is the newest member of the band and was recruited to Amazon from Chile to be a Tech Program Manager at Amazon Pay.  He played bass and guitar with Los Secuaces in Chile.  He likes to cook, ski and fish.

“You guys are one of the better bands in the Pacific Northwest–and one of the best bands that play here!”  -Jim Dunn, Poggie Tavern (and one of the characters on the television show Northern Exposure).
