Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ 5 out of 5. Every now and then I go into Silver Platters and ask Eddie for a recommendation. Sometimes I get odd suggestions that I end up not really liking, but most of the time he suggests stuff that is at least interesting.
Now Kacey Musgraves is not really the kind of artist that you predict to be in my wheelhouse. She’s a twenty-something country singer and songwriter that plays guitar, mandolin, harmonica, and banjo from Golden, Texas.
This record is definitely country. It has songs about boyfriends, small towns in Texas, and beauty pageants. It has steel guitars. And it is great.
It isn’t virtuoso playing and singing, but it is very, very solid and lead with really great, interesting songs. Musgraves comes across as an extremely likable and compelling artist.
But 5 out of 5 stars?? Honestly, this seems like a recording that, in ten years time, I will still pull out and listen to from time to time. It’s really good.
